 Survey Project 2010      Assigned 4/09/10

Decide what your goal is first, what you hope to learn from the results of the survey.

Make sure you hand out the surveys to a representative sample of students in the school. (Male and Female, 9-12th grade)

It is extremely important for  survey questions to be unbiased. Make sure your questions do not encourage a specific answer and that the questions are clearly stated.

Please use one of the following types of  questions:

yes/no

multiple choice

open-end

scaled  ( on a basis of 1-10, with 10 being the highest)

graded    A,B,C,D, or F

strongly agree – agree – mot sure – disagree – strongly disagree

Follow these steps:

1)             Choose a category for the survey. Write it down.  Get approval from Mr. Brass.

2)             Write down 8-10 questions and show it to Mr. Brass for ‘bias screening’.

3)             Print up the survey and distribute it to ten various students in school.

4)             Bring the results back, total the responses, and draw a conclusion. Submit a short paper with the completed questionnaires attached.

Some suggested topic areas : the school website, the hallways between classes, school rules, cell phones, cigarette smoking, after school jobs, cars, homework, Senior Class activities, teachers, courses, computers (school or home,) or summer jobs.

Desktop Publishing Project – The Six Part Brochure

Due 3/10/10

a) Select Your Topic – Choose from a retail store (clothing, electronics, food, or music,) an activities program ( like Raw Arts, Girl or Boy Scouts, Marital Arts,) a sports team, or a summer camp. It can be real or fictional.

b) Take a blank piece of paper, fold it with 3 edges, and use it to sketch out what will be in each of the six pages.

c) Try to organize the information to flow logically. The front and back covers ( pages 1 and 6 ) are on the outside and get seen first by the recipient.  The inside three pages (pages 2, 3, and 4) can be used  as one large section. Page 5 works best as a ‘form’ page for ordering.

Hints: Don’t overdo the text without saving space for graphics. Remember the quote “A good picture is worth a thousand words”.  I recommend three to four pictures or graphics. Include color in your brochure. (The best brochures will be reproduced in color by Mr. Brass.)

Page 1)  Use page 1 to identify the brochure and create interest about the product or service. Make the name stand out. This is definitely a good place for a photo or image.

Pages 2-4)  Use page 2, 3, and 4 to describe the product or service and what makes it outstanding. Again, photos or images are important here.

Page 5)  Use section 5 for a customer order form, response form, or sign-up form. For example, if your brochure is about a football team, then put in an offer to sell game tickets to the person who picks up the brochure. If it’s a store, the customer can put their name on the mailing list. If it’s a camp, the customer can fill in registration info.

Page 6)  Set up page 6 sideways with a mail address, and return address listed, so you can put a stamp on it and mail the brochure.

Good Luck

100 points total = 10 points for printing pages in correct order. Up to 15 points per page for correct and appropriate grammar, spelling, image, and theme .

Web Design – Restaurant Website 2009

We will be using our first web editing software program very soon. In the meantime, I want you to work on setting up a restaurant website. You are in the planning stages right now so – - -

1)    Look at a number of restaurants on the Internet. See how many pages they have, and what each page is about. What is on their home page.

2)    Decide on a type of restaurant you would like to build a website for. Assume it is your own restaurant. Pick out a name and a real location.

3)    Make up a logo for the restaurant on Paint or use MS Word fonts to help you with a logo.

4)    Use plain paper to show what each page will look like. You must have these 3 pages: Home, Menu, and Order Online. Add one more on your own.

5)     Save these written pages to show Mr. Brass.
