SECURITY
All students must have their lanyard and I.D. visible each day. Any student found without their ID or a note from the V.P. exempting him or her, will have automatic detention that evening.
Only one student may leave the classroom at a time unless it is an emergency. All students must make up the time lost with their teacher from 2:30 to 2:45. If that’s a problem, see Mr. Constantino for an alternative solution. Any student who does not have a proper pass from a teacher will face automatic suspension as they will be considered skipping class. After 3:00 all students must be in a supervised activity or area. (Library) or will be considered trespassing and be eligible for suspension.
SOCIAL PROBATION
As much as we would like to think that the threat of suspension is a very serious event, it does not appear to be that way with some of our students who continually violate the rules of the school. These students take up many hours of teacher and administrative time. Some teachers have asked for assistance with students who still refuse to do any work. More students are not attending detention with the Vice Principals until the second or third time it is requested. Many students think it is o.k. to arrive late to class. This has to change. We are continually searching for ways to improve instruction and it’s time we implement some changes that will help all students.
After meeting individually with the administrative team some changes are being requested:
- Students who have more than three days tardy each quarter will sign a paper acknowledging that they have detention that evening.
- Students who do not report to detention with the Vice Principal will be considered violating the discipline code Rule 2.8 (Insubordination) which could result in a suspension.
- Students who are suspended for cutting a class will now meet with the Vice Principal upon return and have to make up that cut class with the teacher on the teacher’s night back. This includes all classes even a study period. This form will be returned to Guidance and then the Principal upon completion. Failure to return form within one week will result in Social Probation.
- Department Heads have been asked to assist teachers with getting students in class each period.
- Social Probation (page 41 HANDBOOK) will be implemented for some students who have academic and discipline violations.
If a teacher has a student who continues to refuse to do class work, homework or come after school for extra help, and you feel completely helpless in changing this behavior, please see me in my office to discuss a plan which may require mandating the student to attend the After School Homework Club or face being put on Social Probation.
Social Probation:
- Some violations of the discipline code may cause a student to be placed on social probation for a period of time to be determined by the administration.
- Social probation is defined as follows:
- The student may lose all privilege of participating in athletic events, practices or games of after-school activities.
- The student may not attend school functions, including those open to the public.
- Student leaders must vacate their office during the term of the social probation.
- Any violation of social probation will result in suspension.
