Writing is an essential part of English Language Arts. We went over the 6-trait RAMS Writing Rubric as a class. There is a copy here for you to view as needed.
September 19th-23rd: Epiphany Paper
Since this was the first writing assignment of the year, I attempted a “Process Writing” approach. In that, we broke down the assignment over a few different class periods…from listing and chatting, to free-writing and reading. The first drafts were due in this week. The final drafts will be due next week after I return the first drafts to you.
This assignment, to recap, was to think of an experience in your life that led you to an epiphany–a sudden realization. It may have been a positive epiphany, or a negative. We looked over an example of student writing and rated it according to the rubric.
October 3rd-7th: Creative Writing!!!
Bring a Puritan to school with you! In either a creative essay, a short story, or a poem, describe a normal school day, with a Puritan in tow. Research your puritan so that he/she is true to historic form. You need to have your Puritan with you from 7:45-2:30 at Lynn Classical High School. Explain your day with your Puritan. 6 traits rubric will be in effect for 60% of this, 20 % will go towards creativity, and 20% towards Puritan authenticity. So, research Puritans–dress, way of life, food, etc.
Be creative! Have fun with this!!!
