CLASS OF 2012:
October 23rd–
Halloween Dance!!!!! Promote it! Attend it! Proceeds go to OUR class!!! AND, if this one is successful, we’ll be able to have others! Think about all those cheesy High School movies…they all have school dances! Let’s do this!
Senior dues are $150–let’s get going on that!
A student approached me about a class ring. This typically isn’t run through the class, but rather the yearbook company, Josten’s. Apparently, Josten’s usually sets up a table during the lunches a couple times a year and takes orders. I know virtually nothing about this, but I did contact the two yearbook advisors for info. At the very least, we can get the company in to take orders. Although, Ms. Christian told me that Walmart takes individual orders for WAY cheaper…
October 15th–
So Mr. C. suggested Ms. Driscoll and I go on the school news to promote Senior dues… Maybe it would be better if your officers did? We both have Mentoring Rooms, and I for one am shy. That said, an assembly last week was impossible because of the weirdo schedule. Dues are set at $150–hopefully we can announce that soon! Thanks to all of the store participants! You’re doing a great job! Jordan, Malcolm, Calvin, & Isaac–a proposed prom venue would like to meet with us this week!!
HALLOWEEN DANCE IS ON!!! Everyone mark your calendars for October 27th!!! A costume Halloween dance sponsored by the class of 2012 is on in the cafe! School rules apply, of course, and the alcohol breath thing will be present! But oh, this is the first school dance in sooooo long! Please promote this and make it fun!
And Spirit week, too, has been approved! The Thursday before Thanksgiving, through Rally Wednesday is heretofore dubbed “Spirit Week!” YES!!!!!
October 10th–
Okay all! Hopefully we’ll meet as a whole this week…though the Holiday and then Wednesday’s schedule might make it tricky. We need to discuss the dreaded SENIOR DUES!!!! Ms. Driscoll, your officers, and I have discussed this a bit. We’re coming up with a timeline of incentives–so, if you pay your dues in full by a certain date, your name gets entered into a drawing for a cool prize. And then again, the second round, if you pay your dues in full, your name will be entered into a drawing for another funky (but not as funky
) prize…etc. Also, a payment plan was discussed, as $150 is a lot of money to cough up at once–we know.
The school store is in swing–and we have some very dedicated volunteers (and for those of you who signed up and have yet to hear from me, I’m getting to it! Promise!). I’ve noticed half of the building sporting the Ram sweatshirt–nice! We still need to get some models to don the clothes for the website! Open House was a huge success–we sold over $600 worth of merchandise! We have a couple of fundraising ideas…but if YOU think of something, let me know!!!
Oh, and we’re looking toward prom venues… Yes it’s early, but we want the best, yes? I’ll keep you posted on that one
.
September 25th–
And so there was a small “glitch” with the elections… It appears as if our incumbents are all running UNOPPOSED!!! SO, congratulations to Jordan Pena, Malcolm Leng-King, Calvin Ebieshiwa (sp?), and Isaac Ardon. You are all Senior Class officers! You have all proven yourselves–and I couldn’t be prouder! Well, except for Isaac…he’s a bit annoying…KIDDING!!! Isaac is at my door every morning looking for items to sell for your class! And everyday, he’s out there for you! And Jordan, Malcolm, and Calvin, too are in the cafe every afternoon selling items for the school store. All four of you are AMAZING! Ms. Driscoll and I are so happy to have had such a great team, and happier still that it will continue on!
September 19th–
It was great to see the Roadies out in full force on Friday! It was a tough loss to Beverly, but our spirits remain high! Thanks to Jenny for the awesome new Roadies sweatshirts! Mine was waiting for me on my chair this afternoon
! Check the announcements this week, as there are a few that pertain to us. First of all, Mr. Constantino has given the Senior Class the opportunity to run the school store! That means, we get the profits!!! YAY!!! Thanks, Mr. C.! That said, we need volunteers to run said store…morning (7:15-7:45), lunch periods (only if you have a study period), and afternoon (2:30-3:15). Ms. Driscoll and I will try to come up with some incentive for the volunteers…maybe reduced price prom ticket? We’ll see.
Also, we have to get this election process rolling. SO, if you’re interested in running, please see me or Ms. Driscoll for a nomination sheet. All students running must be in good academic and social standing. I think the G.P.A. requirement has changed…might require a 3.0 now (I think it was 2.7 before). I’ll check before I hand out the nomination sheets.
And as always, keep checking your FB Activities page! Once we get the officers squared down, we can start actively fundraising (though your 2010-2011 officers have been in full force since day one!).
September 9th–
Okay guys, I got to talk to you briefly on Thursday…and let me say again that Ms. Driscoll and I COULD NOT BE PROUDER OF YOU AS A CLASS!!! We have a very busy, very expensive year ahead of us, but I know you will all continue to participate. Keep checking in with the FB activities page (btw: I’m so impressed at how active you all are with that!). We’ll get on fundraising ASAP, and as soon as we know the Senior Dues amount, we’ll let you know. In the past, the fee has included yearbooks…and that’s where some classes have run into problems. I think there’s talk of separating senior dues and yearbook fee…so that students can elect whether or not to receive a yearbook on an individual basis. Also, senior elections will have to take place in the next couple weeks–and any and all can run (Danny…).
But okay, just keep checking in with me and Ms. Driscoll. Stay active! Stay wonderful! And let’s make this the BEST YEAR EVAH!!!!
September 4th–
OMG! You’re seniors!!!! There’s a lot on your plate this year–college apps, grades, etc. And yes, despite popular belief, GRADES are HUGELY important all the way through 4th quarter! I know you have been looking forward to the “Senior Slump,” but unfortunately it’s impossible with today’s economy. All schools are looking for all four quarters of senior year, because, yeah, they can. Enough students are applying to ALL colleges and universities allowing them to be VERY picky…and to take back admittance and scholarships if grades trail off… So, I know you are all going to apply yourselves as always.
I also know that you are going to have an AMAZING SENIOR YEAR!!! Ms. Driscoll and I will make sure of it. You are all so motivated and informative! I thank you for keeping me in the loop over the summer
. I encourage you all to keep up with the 2012 Activities page! I’m sorry if it gets flooded with feedback (Jerrica), but it’s great to see so much involvement! See you soon!!!
November 11th–
So candy sales are at a halt. It is actually against school rules, but we sort of forgot that. The halting of sales is actually something that should have happened last year…or rather, candy shouldn’t have been sold. That’s our bad. But it’s okay–we have Ram Pins! They’re cool and they’re selling…and we’re still looking good financially. All classes were asked to donate money for a whole school Anti-Violence campaign–and of course we’re on board with it. Ms. Taylor is championing an anti-bullying/anti-violence campaign with the aid of Alyssa Baglieri (Peer Mediation), and with our help, we may be able to bring in a Nationally commended program–”Rachel’s Challenge”–to our school.
October 26th–
Candy sales continue! Ms. Driscoll purchased a whole bunch of boxes of candy over the weekend, and by first period today (Tuesday), all were gone! I was told that Calvin was a natural salesperson–and wow! He is a machine! He went through two boxes yesterday before the end of 3rd lunch… In other news, The Student Activities fair is happening on Thursday, October 28th. The Class of 2012 will have a table set up, with, at the very least concession sales…BAKE SALE!!! Please bake for your class! There are usually a LOT of people mulling about, and I’m sure they would appreciate the after school baked good fix
!
October 18th–
Isaac Ardon finally secured the Treasurer position last week, and today we had our first true officer meeting. Very productive meeting–all four officers were there until after 4 discussing fundraising ideas. This is definitely a dedicated team–probably much to the upset of Coach Phelps who probably wishes they were at football practice instead…
. Not Isaac, however, who can probably hold down this season until basketball season arrives. Anywho…we have some fundraising ideas (in addition to our candy-pushing), and would LOVE to get more ideas from all of you! So think about it…what would YOU like to sell/buy??
Right now, we’re looking into some sort of apparel, RAM FAM bands, buttons, etc.
HEY JUNIOR CLASS!!!!–WHAT DO YOU WANT???? HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO FUNDRAISE????
October 9th–
Well, due to a mess-up (MINE…sorry everyone), only half of the Junior class Mentoring Rooms were notified about the re-vote. So, there will be another vote for the Treasurer position on Tuesday, October 12th (for real this time
). Because of the dedication that the students of the class of 2012 have exhibited, Ms. Driscoll and myself have decided that all positions should be secured with sincerity–hence the drawing out of the Treasurer election. This is very Bush/Gore…hanging chads…lol. On Tuesday, it will all be done. Phew.
In other news, the class of 2012 had a table in the foyer during the Open House on 10/7. We managed to make another $100…which doesn’t sound like a lot, but every little bit helps! You are all doing great–if anyone has any great ideas for fundraising, please see your officers, Ms. Driscoll, or myself.
October 6th–
So today the ballots went out, votes were cast, and officers chosen. Sort of. Incumbent President, Jordan Pena, secured his position, as did incumbent Vice President, Malcolm Leng-King. A new chairperson was chosen, Calvin Ebieshuwa, and a Treasurer remains to be chosen. After the ballots were counted and recounted two more times–it was clear that there was a dead tie. Isaac Ardon and Janeiris Ruiz will be on a ballot tomorrow morning during M.R. for a tie-breaking decision.
All ballots were counted by the Advisor to the Class of 2014. Neither Ms. Driscoll, nor myself were involved with the tallying, nor will we be tomorrow.
Thank you to all of the candidates who ran. It makes me proud to be an advisor to this class. Your bravery, your dedication, and your passion are an inspiration to your peers and school community. Whether you were elected or not, YOU are truly an asset to the class of 2012–and I know you will continue to be so!
–Ms. H.
October 1st–
So today we had our Junior Assembly. I have to admit that I was initially weirded out by your strange, haphazard seating style (the seniors and freshmen all pushed forward in a very formulaic manner). I think, though, that it speaks to to the individuality and collective identity of your class. You are individuals. You are dynamic. Maybe that’s why you are, and have been so successful!
So several candidates got up to speak today–and wow, what bravery and dedication they all have toward your class! Yaneiris, Issac, Allison, Adrien, Franscisco, Calvin, Nichelle, Jose, Malcolm, Stephanie, Katherine, and Jordan–truly amazing student body members!
Ballots will be handed out in your MR Monday or Tuesday. Vote wisely. This IS a big year!
SEPTEMBER 22, 2010: Starting today, you can come to me or Ms. Driscoll for nomination forms. Please read the notice below before you attempt to apply, or to nominate. Watch the school news for further information.
You are JUNIORS!!!! AWESOME! You are now upperclassmen–congratulations! We have a whole bunch of things in store for this year…like, for example, a PROM!!!!
The first couple weeks of school are inherently tied up with nuts and bolts things: scheduling, orientations, guidance visits, etc., so, I think maybe we will stave off elections until the dust has settled. Junior year is a HUGE year for you–very, very important. There’s a lot going on for you, and there’s a lot for you to really start thinking about (colleges?).
So that said, anyone who is interested in running for an office should start thinking about it. Please make sure to weigh your time constraints against the duties that a class officer must perform. If you are taking several high powered classes, you should realize that your concentration should go first and foremost to your academics. If you do not think that you will have the time to perform the duties of an officer, please don’t run. Again, academics are more important than anything! Last year’s officers were on duty EVERYDAY, checking in all the time. Please don’t run for an office strictly to have it on your resume. We need class officers who will be able to dedicate their time and energy toward the benefit of the class of 2012–at all times!
And for those of you who do not want to run: PLEASE do not elect people solely on popularity! Think about what you want for this year and next. Think about the events that YOU would like to have. Nominate and elect people whom you truly believe will give their ALL to your class!
You have already proven yourselves to be a wonderful, amazing, and highly involved class! I am sooooo happy to be working with you again!
Welcome back Class of 2012!!!!
–Ms. H.
