Visual Arts at Lynn Classical High School
The Visual Arts Department at Classical High School strives to promote Art understandings in the classroom through the use of technology such as slide and LCD projectors, Internet lessons, activities, and art films. Also the Art department is now implementing photography and graphic arts in the curriculum. Critical thinking skills are taught on a daily basis through the emphasis of Bloom’s Taxonomy Levels of learning: Students will be able to sketch, draw, paint, sculpt, and build. They will be able to design and create from memory, imagination and direct observation while maintaining the tools and studio space. Students will also be able to select their own art works for their Portfolio and Art Exhibit, as well as assess and describe their own art and the art of others. The overarching objective is for students to graduate with an adequate exposure, deeper understanding and appreciation of the Fine Arts.
Our department motto in the arts at Classical is, “art is about saying, not just making.”
Students will be able to define and exhibit a thorough understanding of the elements of art and the principles of design by the end of the semester and be able to complete a progression of various art media in an individual portfolio.
