Course Description:
Jobs for Bay State Graduates (JBSG) is a program that provides academic and career counseling to high school seniors for personal and job preparation services. This is a five-credit elective course offered specifically for seniors. The curriculum focuses on career development, job attainment and retention, job survival, basic skill remediation, and leadership development. Students have the opportunity to apply the skills they learn in the JBSG classroom through their participation in the Bay State Career Association. The student run organization will motivate students through pride of membership and participation in project-based activities that teach career preparation, leadership and civic and social awareness.
Curriculum Competencies:
- Personal skills-Maturity, Self-Value, Self-Concept, Decision Making, Responsibility, Attitude.
- Career Development-Identify occupational interests, skills and abilities, relate to appropriate occupations, Identify desired life style and relation to occupations, Develop a path for selected occupation.
- Job Attainment-Search for a job, Complete Applications, Complete employment tests, Develop cover letter and resume, Telephone interviews, In-person interviews.
- Job Survival-Appropriate appearance, What employers expect of employees, Time management, Letter of resignation.
- Basic-Verbal and Written communication, mathematical calculations.
- Leadership and Self-Development-Demonstrate team membership, Demonstrate team leadership, Deliver presentations, Compete successfully with peers, Demonstrate commitment to an organization.
