ECOLOGY

Read the introduction to ecology and food webs:

http://www.vtaide.com/png/foodchains.htm

Click on the link for your assigned biome and view the food web. Read about plant and animal adaptations for that biome. Write a food chain for this biome. Label the organisms and idenityf their level with in the food chain.  Summarize TWO adaptations for plants and TWO adaptations for animals in bullets.

Check in with teacher before moving on.

Prepare to present your findings to class.

ANCHOR: Click on CREATE FOOD WEB. Create a food web containing at least 10 elements.

Mrs. Moriarty ‘s Policies

Biology

Always Bring:

Something to write with, your Biology folder and notebook or binder with paper and pocket. All handouts and homeworks should immediately go into your folder or binder and should be brought to class every day. You may bring water but not at the lab benches (reusable container please) You may not bring gum, snacks, drinks (Automatic after school for “clean-up”. Do not bring cell phones, i-pods, or other electronics. You will be written up if you are caught using any electronics.

Class Behavior

During lecture, there should be no students talking! If a student is asking a question, no one else should be talking!. A student talking during lecture is a disruption to their classmate’s education and will not be tolerated. (Remember Be Respectful) If you have something to contribute to class I really want to hear it, but please listen to others and wait your turn.

Please do not leave trash anywhere in the room except the trash can.

Leaving the Room

You have four passes for the year. Please fill out the pass completely when you need it at your desk and bring it up to me to sign. Do not lose your pass sheet or you will have to come after school. You may not leave the room during a test. If you use all of your passes, you have to start coming after school if you leave the room.

Homework

Some of  your learning will happen at home. It is necessary to have lots of repetition in order for you to retain all of the information from this class.  Your homework assignments are designed to help you learn the material. They will help you practice reviewing the material. Sometimes homework is to study for a quiz or test; I suggest studying your class notes and using strategies that I teach you in class to study. Half credit will be earned for late homework.

Projects &Labs

All projects and labs must be typed unless otherwise stated. 10 points are taken off for every day that a project or lab is late.

Handouts

I do not give handouts twice. If you lose something, you must make a copy or make a written copy from a friend. Your best bet is to be organized so that you don’t lose things!

Absences

If you are absent you are responsible for the missing work. Please get assignments and notes from your Missed It! partner. I will not remind you to get your make up work; it is your responsibility.  You will have 1 week from the day you come back, to make up all work. Please try very hard not to be absent on days of exams,  quizzes, or labs.  These must be made up on your own before or after school.  If you do not make things up within 1 week you will receive a 0.

Grading

Exams 40%, Labs/Projects 20%, Quizzes 20%, Homework 15%, Participation 5%
