Journal Entries/Word of the Day  ( 6 sentences minimum, use the word of the day in your response)

#1.  Complete one of the following sentences:

           When I was young, I once stole……

            When I was young, I once thought about stealing…….

            Once, when I was young,  my friend stole…..

Now use that sentence to start a journal entry.

 #2.  WOTD:  Vocation  (N)  An occupation, one for  which a person is particularly suited ; a calling like to  religious career.

JE :    Mark Twain said, “ Make your vocation  your vacation.” What did he mean by this? Now, let your imagination run wild; write a description of a dream job, whether it exists or not, that would meet your fantasy. How would you spend an average day at work?

 #3  WOTD: Camaraderie (N)  Trust and sociability amongst friends.

                     Amicable ( Adj) Friendly, agreeable  

 JE:  List 5 rules you think students should follow for themselves in classes. What should the consequences be for breaking those rules?

#4 WOTD : Sagacity (N) Wisdom

 JE:  What do you hope to learn this year in class?  What are your strengths and weaknesses and in what areas do you hope to improve on?

 #5  WOTD : Venerable  ( Adj)  Respected because of age.

   JE:  Write about a teacher you have now or had on the past that you know  about. Write a 6 or more sentences  about that particular teacher  and why you respect him/her.  Explain why you respect some teachers in general.

 #6  WOTD : Precedence (N) Priority, Coming first

     JE: With society today, it appears to  require  two people in the home to work.    Have you ever experienced  a time where your parents had to choose work  over family?  If you have, please explain the a situation where you wished your parents were there but they had to work..  If your parents never had to choose work over family, explain your family dynamic and  their involvement  in your life.

#7    WOTD : Antagonist ( N) Opposite, enemy, bad guy, evil character

         JE : What makes a good story?

#8      WOTD : Didactic  ( Adj)  Teaching with a moral lesson

                          Indignant ( Adj) Showing anger

             JE:  Have you ever hurt or disappointed your parents? Have your parents ever been hurt or disappointed by someone else? Please explain the event and how it impacted  your parents’  feeling s and lives. 

  #9      WOTD : Fortuituous ( Adj)  happening by luck, fortunate

             JE:  Make a timeline of your life of major events.  Write at least 10 things that have happened to you .  ( ie: birth, sibling birth, starting school, travel, major disappointment, major accomplishment, learnign a new skill etc…)  Reflect on this timeline.  Then write 6 sentences ( using fortuitous)  that explains your life overall up until now.

#10    W.O.T.D.:   adversity: (n) misfortune, an unfavorable turn of events JE : Choose one of the events from your “life outline” and tell the story of what happened.

#11. W.O.T.D: superfluous: (adj) extra, more than enough, redundant

JE:  If you had three wishes, what would they be?

 #12. W.O.T.D: ephemeral: (adj) momentary, transient, fleeting

What is really important in life? Make a list of the top 5 things.

JE:  Who do you admire the most?  Why?

#14. WOTH intrepid ( adj) fearless, adventurous

JE: What do you know about a King Arthur or medieval times?

#15. WOTHhypothesis ( n)  asumption theory  requiring proof

 JE: Explain the following quote:        Do you agree or  disagree and why? How does this quote compare to the Code of Chivalry?

JE: What can we learn from King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table?

Antigone was stubborn  and her pride was strong. Has your pride ever caused you problems?

#19 WOTH: provocative (Adj)  tending to provoke anger disagreement  and some type of response..

#20 WOTH : enhance  (v) to improve; bring to a greater level of intensity.

                         inconsequential  (adj) unimportant; trivial

       “Ignorant men don’t know what good they have in their hands until they have flung it away.” – Sophocles

Explain both quotes and give your opinion.
