Adapted Curriculum Frameworks

The classes will follow ALL Ma DOE Frameworks. Content will be simplified as described below. Primary and secondary documents will be excerpted, according to English level of the class. Differentiated instruction will be as follows: Individual practice in concept learning, discussion groups, maps, and journal writing projects. Textbook: America’s History: Land of Liberty.
- Curriculum Content
Curriculum Content will include Early Colnial Life, Road to Revolution, Documents of the Founders, Presidency, Expansion, Regional differences, Immigration, Reform Movements, Civil War and Reconstruction.
- Beginning level
Focus will be on essential vocabulary and necessary vocabulary. This will limit the content to a simplified form, but opportunities to work more in-depth will be given. Course will function as a preparatory course that will be more in-depth, and assessments and assignments will focus on learning the vocabulary for intermediate and advanced ESL classes. Textbook: America’s History: Land of Liberty.
- Intermediate and Advanced Level
Focus on more advanced vocabulary, as used in concepts and unity of historical facts. Course will function as a preparation for mainstream US History 1, or US 2 for the more advanced student. Students will complete all History Department assessments, and grading will be according to essential and necessary vocabulary and content. Textbook: America’s History: Land of Liberty.
- Advanced Level
Focus is on accomplishing English level in content concepts and vocabulary for mainstream assignments and assessments. Beginning in the third quarter, students will study from the mainstream textbook, AmericaNation.
