ESL US HISTORY 1

Adapted Curriculum Frameworks

Please see documents “Mass DOE Curriculum Standards” and History Department Map

The classes will follow ALL Ma DOE Frameworks. Content will be simplified as described below. Primary and secondary documents will be excerpted, according to English level of the class. Differentiated instruction will be as follows:

  • Beginning level

Focus will be on essential vocabulary and necessary vocabulary. This will limit the content to a    simplified form, but opportunities to work more in-depth will be given. Course will function as a        preparatory course that will be more in-depth, and assessments and assignments will focus on learning the vocabulary for intermediate and advanced ESL classes.

  • Intermediate and Advanced Level

Focus on more advanced vocabulary, as used in concepts and unity of historical facts. Course     will function as a preparation for mainstream US History 1, or US 2 for the more advanced student. Students will complete all History Department assessments, and grading will be    according to essential and necessary vocabulary and content.

  • Advanced Level

Focus is on accomplishing English level in content concepts and vocabulary for mainstream assignments and assessments. Beginning in the third quarter, students will study from the mainstream textbook, America: Pathways to the Present.
